Student Board Members

In 2019, the San Diego Unified Board of Education accepted a student petition and authorized installment of a student board member, in line with California Education Code 35012. Additional details can be found here, and in Board Bylaw 1035.

There will be two (2) Student Board Member positions available for the 2025-26 school year. Please note that based on the action of the San Diego Unified Board of Education (which can be found here), no two students may actively serve from the same high school and at least one student serving must be from a school with 60% or higher FRPM (Free or Reduced Price Meal) eligibility.

Per Board Bylaw 1035, Section F, "Consecutive student board members from the same high school are prohibited, except that an incumbent student board member may opt to run for a second term if he/she so desires." Our current Student Board Members, Joseph Cruz and Quinton Baldis, attend Morse High School and Scripps Ranch High School, respectively and both are graduating this year.

Starting January 1, 2024, Assembly Bill (AB) 275 allows the San Diego Unified School District to compensate the Student Board Members.
