Employee Recognition Programs
The goal of The San Diego Unified School District’s Employee Recognition Programs is to identify and recognize employees who, in their contributions and service to the District, exemplify our core values and mission of making San Diego a better place.
We recognize and appreciate that San Diego Unified is full of talented and dedicated employees who have an essential role, responsibility, and stake in the safety, security, and success of our students. In gratitude, our recognition programs are meant to honor and celebrate the valuable contributions of District employees to our students, schools, and community.
Each school year, Human Resources celebrates the contributions of our employees by recognizing exemplary individuals through 4 celebrations held at various times throughout the year. Those celebrations are:
Teacher of the Year
Yearly celebration, coinciding with the Day of the Teacher, meant to honor and thank educators for their immeasurable contributions to our students, community, and our district.
Classified Employee of the Year
Yearly celebration meant to honor the dedication and meaningful work classified employees do for our students and our district.
“In Gratitude” Retirement Celebration
Yearly celebration, a final “thank you” honoring the years of talent, commitment, and service to San Diego Unified, dedicated to employees choosing to retire from the district.
Employee Service Year Milestones (5,10,15,20,30,40 years)
Monthly recognition, meant to celebrate and share our appreciation for employees who have hit notable career milestones with the district.
Rookie of the Year
The Rookie of the Year (ROY) Recognition Program recognizes new district employees that exemplify effectiveness in service; contribute to a positive school or site climate; display dedication and passion through their work ethic; and show high levels of professionalism and compassion for their colleagues and their community.
